Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer.
According to a report from the Chronicle, Celtic are interested in signing Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow this summer should Rafa Benitez allow the Englishman to leave St James’ Park.
Darlow has played a peripheral role on Tyneside since Martin Dubravka joined in the 2018 January transfer window. He has previously been the club’s number one stopper, but few Magpies fans have expressed any disappointment about his absence from the side over the last 18 months.
Meanwhile, Celtic look as though they may need to strengthen their goalkeeper options in the summer. Craig Gordon and Dorus De Vries are coming towards the end of their careers, it seems, and it would be a huge surprise if the latter was on the Hoops’ books next season.
Scott Bain has done well since getting a chance last season. But the recruitment team appear to be on the lookout for potential targets who will bolster their ranks between the sticks.
The Chronicle reports that Darlow may be sold by the Magpies, and that Celtic are one of the teams interested in signing the £3 million-rated 28-year-old.
Given how long it has been since Darlow played regularly, it would arguably be a gamble for the Bhoys to spend a seven-figure fee to bring him to Parkhead, especially as plenty of Celtic fans would probably have few complaints with Bain remaining first-choice next season.
