Report: River Plate ready to sell Santiago Sosa with Everton keen

Everton director of football Marcel Brands looks on during the Premier League match between Everton FC and Leicester City at Goodison Park on January 1, 2019 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Premier League outfit Everton reportedly want to sign Argentinian midfielder Santiago Sosa from the Copa Libertadores winners for £11.5m.

River Plate are willing to sell midfielder Santiago Sosa this summer with Everton keen to bring him to Goodison Park, according to TYC Sports.

During his time behind the scenes at PSV, FC Twente and AZ Alkmaar, Marcel Brands frequently showcased his ability to snap up rising talents on the cheap long before they became household names, from Dries Mertens to Hirving Lozano, Gini Wijnaldum to Mousa Dembele.

And it seems that Everton’s highly-rated director of football is at it again with 20-year-old Sosa in his sights.

Ole reported this week that The Toffees have contacted the agent of the Argentina U20 international, who has played just four league games for River Plate so far.

And, according to TYC, Everton are willing to invest £11.5 million in one of South America’s brightest young defensive midfielders. The report adds that River Plate are willing to cash in for two main reasons.

One, and quite simply, they need the money. Two, the reigning Copa Libertadores champions already have a number of players in the same position.

Everton could perhaps see Sosa as a long-term successor for Idrissa Gana Gueye, who continues to be linked with a move away.
