Rangers have enjoyed a fine run since Nikola Katic returned to the side.
Rangers continued their fine end to the season on Sunday, beating Celtic 2-0 at Ibrox thanks to goals from James Tavernier and Scott Arfield.
The Gers have now won six games in a row towards the end of the season, and will be hoping to make it seven against Kilmarnock on Sunday.
Steven Gerrard will be looking towards next season already, and he’s made one move recently which should really excite fans ahead of next term.
Gerrard recently dropped loanee Joe Worrall in favour of Nikola Katic, who he paid £2million to sign last summer (Sky Sports), but has been patient with this season.
The Croatian is now starting over Worrall, as he should given that he’ll be a Rangers player next season, and his performances have been a source of encouragement.
In five games with Katic in the team, Rangers have conceded just one goal, keeping four clean sheets in an outstanding run which has really showcased Katic’s ability.
The 22-year-old has been dominant in the air and strong in the tackle, whilst errors in and out of possession aren’t happening nearly as frequently.
This development suggests that Katic could be brilliant next season, continuing his progress whilst nailing down a spot next to Connor Goldson in Gerrard’s defence.
That’s a real boost for Rangers, and his progress has come at the perfect time, with the Gers set to sign two centre backs this summer. However, anyone coming in will now know that they seemingly have to supplant Katic after a fine run.
