A number of Everton and West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to react to Mason Holgate's performance in the second-leg of the Championship play-off semi-final and discuss what the defender's future may look like.
The Baggies produced a fantastic effort to take Aston Villa to penalties on Tuesday. They went into the second-leg 2-1 down after the first meeting, but levelled the tie within half an hour when Holgate's throw-in was headed home by Craig Dawson.
But Chris Brunt's red card in the latter stages of the 90 minutes left Jimmy Shan's men playing for penalties. And unfortunately, that strategy did not pay off as Villa won 4-3 in the shootout.
Holgate may have had the first spot-kick saved by Jed Steer, but that has not stopped both West Brom and Everton supporters lauding the youngster's performance in the game.
The 22-year-old has been an incredibly impressive signing for the Baggies, and there are plenty of fans who are hoping that he could potentially stay beyond this season. He dealt extremely well with Anwar El Ghazi at the Hawthorns and put some of the substitutes to shame with his energy over 120 minutes.
However, judging by what some of the Toffees fans made of his display, it may not be a huge surprise if Marco Silva decides to keep Holgate at Goodison Park from next year.
Here is what some of the Everton and West Brom fans were saying about Holgate's display and future...

Time to clear out livermore Barry HRK. Mears hoolahan and Morrison should be released. The loan army going back. You would imagine somebody is coming in for hegazi. Hell of a rebuild this summer! Would sign Gayle and Holgate if we can #WBA— Andrew Beech (@beechyboy90) May 14, 2019
If we can bring holgate and Gayle back next season I’d be delighted, Rondon,JRod,Gibbs,Phillips will be sold 100% may give fields and Edwards a chance to get more football Harper will probably leave, is this the end for Morrison & Brunt who knows,— Luke Waterhouse (@WBALukey) May 14, 2019

the passion from holgate is unreal, you could tell what it meant to him at the end he was genuinely gutted. @WBA sign him up— Joe (@JoeDunn_97) May 14, 2019
Gutted it was Mason Holgate that missed. Been outstanding all season and especially tonight. Loan players can be guilty of not caring enough but absolutely no complaints with his attitude. Top top player #WBA #EFC— Cristiano (@Rollsie7) May 14, 2019
If that’s the last we see if Holgate and Gayle btw, what effort and passion they have put into the club despite not being our players. Class pro’s #wba— Luke Johnson (@Lukejohnson561) May 14, 2019
