Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri has been linked with a move to Sheffield United this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri

A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun on Sunday (12/5; page 59) over the weekend which suggested that Sheffield United want Fernando Forestieri.

The Blades are beginning to make plans for their return to the Premier League, and The Sun on Sunday reports that Chris Wilder is a huge fan of the Owls star, who scored six goals in 25 Championship games this season.

The report added that Wednesday are willing to sell the 29-year-old this summer as Dejphon Chansiri looks to balance the books, but they want £14 million before they allow Forestieri to go.

The reports have attracted a mixed response on social media. Forestieri has been a frustrating figure over the last couple of seasons, with injuries preventing him from showing the form that nearly led to Wednesday getting promoted during his first year at Hillsborough.

And there are plenty of Owls fans who feel that any bids that come close to his reported asking price should be accepted. Despite his ability produce moments of brilliance, he has proved to be almost impossible to rely on - and his age suggests that he is unlikely to improve further.

There are some who would not care too much if that offer came from Bramall Lane, seemingly believing that he would not live up to expectations anyway. And while most would surely hope that he heads elsewhere if he does leave, the general consensus appears to be that Wednesday cannot turn down an eight-figure bid for the forward, regardless of where it comes from.
