Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri has been linked with a move to Sheffield United this summer.
A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun on Sunday (12/5; page 59) over the weekend which suggested that Sheffield United want Fernando Forestieri.
The Blades are beginning to make plans for their return to the Premier League, and The Sun on Sunday reports that Chris Wilder is a huge fan of the Owls star, who scored six goals in 25 Championship games this season.
The report added that Wednesday are willing to sell the 29-year-old this summer as Dejphon Chansiri looks to balance the books, but they want £14 million before they allow Forestieri to go.
The reports have attracted a mixed response on social media. Forestieri has been a frustrating figure over the last couple of seasons, with injuries preventing him from showing the form that nearly led to Wednesday getting promoted during his first year at Hillsborough.
And there are plenty of Owls fans who feel that any bids that come close to his reported asking price should be accepted. Despite his ability produce moments of brilliance, he has proved to be almost impossible to rely on – and his age suggests that he is unlikely to improve further.
There are some who would not care too much if that offer came from Bramall Lane, seemingly believing that he would not live up to expectations anyway. And while most would surely hope that he heads elsewhere if he does leave, the general consensus appears to be that Wednesday cannot turn down an eight-figure bid for the forward, regardless of where it comes from.
Here is what some of the Owls fans made of the reports…
If £14M Forestieri needs a lift to The Lane then I’m available all summer. Great Deal for the Owls if this happens #swfc— Adam Myers (@theadammyers) May 12, 2019
Other clubs thinking of buying Forestieri will have the same worry as us, do we risk keeping him ? can he stay fit for a month ? when he is fit he can be either our match winner or goes unnoticed, basically he can look like he’s worth £10M one week and 10bob the next #SWFC— StevieBrown (@StevieBOwls) May 13, 2019
Whatever the fate of Forestieri and Westwood (and there will be others) we got to get behind and trust in Bruce… got to admit it will hurt if Fessi goes to blunts and likewise with Westy to dog botherers… Hutch to Hull to top it off #SWFC #wawaw— James Scott (@james12scott) May 13, 2019
Some of our fans worried about Forestieri going to pigs . Who cares ? Money talks in football and we need it . As good as he can be doesn’t play anywhere near enough games and hasn’t hit the standards of 3 yrs ago #swfc— Rob Earnshaw (@Rearn01T) May 12, 2019
Forestieri is an amazing player and has done so much for the club but he struggles to defend and when he isn’t on form we lose a player. For £14 million I’d happily sell him, no matter which club #swfc #sufc— hayden (@mrhaydenmorris) May 12, 2019
Bruce says he wants to base his team around forestieri a few months back, but £20m and blunts can have him #swfc— Rob Oldfield (@ROldfieldDesign) May 12, 2019
14 mil for forestieri hahahahahaha please— BW (@bw_swfc) May 12, 2019
If forestieri signs for United I’m done. What rivalry anymore— Aaron (@aaron_swfc) May 12, 2019
I really wouldn’t be able to stomach seeing forestieri in a Utd shirt whatever price they pay. #swfc— Billy• (@Billyxswfc) May 12, 2019
