The Magpies defender has been unfortunate with injuries this Premier League season.
Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune has taken to Twitter to provide a positive fitness update which has been received very well by the Toon Army.
The French centre-back suffered a knee injury during April’s defeat to Crystal Palace, just months after returning from another long-term absence with a similar issue.
Lejeune had to be carried off on a stretcher after hurting his left knee in a clash with Andros Townsend, the club deeming it a “significant” injury.
The 27-year-old, who joined the club in 2017 from Spanish club Eibar, has made just 12 Premier League appearances this season (Transfermarkt) but has been superb at the back when available.
As such, his Twitter message in which he spoke of his rehabilitation, which seems to be going ahead of schedule, and love for the Newcastle fans was very good news indeed:
Thanks to all for your incredible support during this season, you were truly amazing and carried us through every game.— Florian Lejeune (@lejeune_florian) 13 May 2019
I’m currently in Italy where I’m working everyday to strengthen my knee. I will be returning in Newcasltle soon.

Newcastle found themselves battling against relegation for much of the 2018-19 campaign but under the stewardship of Rafael Benitez they rallied round to finish 13th in the Premier League table this season.
