Manchester City are readying a £52 million bid to sign Juventus full-back Joao Cancelo, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. But they might be wasting their time with the Portugal international loving life in Turin.
City have a history when it comes to paying staggering fees for full-backs, investing over £130 million to bring Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo to the Etihad Stadium during the summer of 2017.
Reports from Italy today suggest that Cancelo could be Pep Guardiola’s latest big name signing, with the Premier League champions willing to hand Juventus a cool £20 million profit on a player they signed just 11 months ago from Valencia.
The 24-year-old produced eight assists in all competitions during his debut season at Juve, helping Max Allegri’s side win an eighth successive Serie A title.
But it seems that Cancelo has no interest in walking away after just one season, despite being left out of crucial Champions League encounters against Atletico Madrid and Ajax since the turn of the year.
"I want to stay here, I hope my future is at Juventus, where I hope to win many different trophies,” the former Benfica flyer told Goal while refuting suggestions of a difficult relationship with Allegri.
Manchester City might have to look elsewhere then though a new right-back could be a priority with Brazil international Danilo telling Inter Milan he wants to move to the San Siro this summer, according to Gianluca di Marzio.
