Diame is out of contract at Newcastle this summer, and the 31-year-old has reportedly not made the number of starts needed to trigger an extension on his deal.
Diame is a former West Ham player and was on the books of the London club from the summer of 2012 until the summer of 2014 when he switched to Hull City.
Daily Star – Mohamed Diame said it was always his aim to play for a team higher up the league table.— David Gold (@davidgold) September 5, 2014
Good luck at Hull Mohamed. dg

In fairness to Mohamed Diame when he said, I want to play for a team higher up the league, he never said which league! dg
Given Gold’s aforementioned tweets suggest that it will be very tough for Diame to return to West Ham, and it is quite surprising that the Hammers are (reportedly) interested in the midfielder in the first place.
West Ham do have some very good midfielders, and there is really no need for the 31-year-old at the London Stadium.
