The Tottenham Hotspur star has just one year remaining on his current deal.

Tim Sherwood suggested that it will be difficult for Tottenham to keep hold of Christian Eriksen this summer, with Real Madrid reportedly courting the Dane, when speaking to the Express.

The 27-year-old joined Spurs from Ajax in the summer of 2013, for around £11.5 million according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to rack up an impressive 66 goals and 86 assists in 276 appearances in all competitions thus far for the north London outfit.

Eriksen has just one more year remaining on his current contract with Tottenham, however, with Spanish media outlet El Confidencial claiming that the Denmark international is one of Real Madrid’s key summer transfer targets.

And Sherwood told the Express how he expects the midfield playmaker to leave Spurs for the Spanish capital this summer, suggesting that it will be difficult for him to turn down a move to the Santiago Bernabeu:

“I would love to see Eriksen sign a new contract and commit his future to Tottenham, but I’m not sure that he will. I think we might see Eriksen in a Real Madrid shirt next season. Real Madrid are always just a phone call away from signing most players in the world because when that phone rings, it is very difficult to turn down Real Madrid.”

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely want to keep hold of Eriksen, but the decision might just be taken out of his hands, considering the fact that the north London club would risk losing him for nothing next year.

And if Spurs do sell the Dane, they will have to spend big to replace him this summer.
