Does Naughty Dog’s International Women’s Day video confirm that Joel will be playable in The Last Of Us Part 2?

Other than its release date, one of the biggest questions fans have had about Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us Part 2 is whether Joel will be playable.

The Last Of Us Part 2 is the PlayStation 4’s most anticipated exclusive, and there are a plethora of reasons to be hopeful about a 2019 launch.

In recent news, director Neil Druckmann has said that Laura Bailey’s performance helped bring to life one of his favourite characters, and an emotional scene starring Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson was recently filmed.

Adding to the endless array of speculation surrounding Naughty Dog’s highly-anticipated sequel, there’s a video which possibly confirms that Joel will be playable.

The Last Of Us Part 2 – does this video confirm Joel will be playable?

The Last Of Us Part 2 was announced back at the PlayStation Experience in 2016, and Neil Druckmann reiterated in 2018 that Ellie is the only character players will control

Sony showed off a stunning demo at E3 2018, and The Last Of Us Part 2 appeared leaps and bounds better than its already jaw-dropping predecessor.

However, despite the game appearing to be a blast with Ellie in the driver’s seat, fans are still hopeful that there’ll be a segment where Joel takes control of the wheel.

Naughty Dog uploaded a video back in March to celebrate International Women’s Day, and it’s possible the footage reveals that players will take control of Joel for a period of time during the game’s narrative.

The International Women’s Day video showed off The Last Of Part 2’s weapon upgrades UI, but YouTuber Tajae noticed that there’s also a clip which seemed to show Joel running around a test area as a playable character.

You shouldn’t take this as confirmation that Joel will definitely be playable as the footage isn’t fully clear. However, I would be surprised and disappointed if The Last Of Us Part 2 didn’t feature a mission where Joel momentarily takes over the action as Ellie did in The Last Of Us.
