While Sean Longstaff has risen through the ranks to become a first-team regular at St James’ Park, starring under Rafa Benitez in the second half of the Premier League season, his younger brother Matty is yet to make his senior debut for the club.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder has impressed at youth level, however, producing five assists in 20 Premier League 2 games over the course of the 2018/19 campaign.
And, according to The Chronicle, the local lad could be playing professional football for the first time very soon with a number of League One and League Two clubs keen to sign the younger Longstaff on loan.
Bradford City boss Gary Bowyer, who worked with Sean during his excellent 2017/18 spell at Blackpool, watched Matty in action in Newcastle’s Premier League Cup final defeat to Everton.
It is reported that The Bantams are currently leading the chase as it stands. But the Yorkshire outfit will face competition from Swindon Town.
The Chronicle adds that Newcastle rejected bids from Bury and Falkirk in January but now they want Longstaff to prove himself at senior level.
