Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Mexer in the summer transfer window, and Ibrox winger Daniel Candeias has suggested on Instagram that the central defender is on his way to Steven Gerrard’s side.
The Daily Record has reported of Rangers’ interest in securing the services of Mexer this summer.
The report has claimed that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has already held talks with the Mozambique central defender over a move to the Gers.
French clubs Bordeaux and Nantes are also reported to be interested in securing the services of the centre-back, who is out of contract at Rennes at the end of the season.
Mexer has posted a cryptic post on Instagram regarding his future, and 31-year-old Rangers winger Candeias – who played with the defender at Nacional – has suggested him to move to Ibrox.
Candeias replied to Mexer’s Instagram post in French and wrote: “Le futur ce ici mon frere”, which in English translates as: “The future is here, my friend”.
Mexer has made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 and seven in the Europa League for Rennes this season, according to WhoScored.

As for Candeias, the Rangers winger has made 25 starts and six substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership this campaign, scoring five goals in the process, according to WhoScored.
Candeias joined Rangers from Benfica in the summer of 2017 when Pedro Caixinha was in charge of the Gers and for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £700,000.
