How can the Marvel movies of phase 4 top Endgame?

Avengers: Endgame dir. Anthony and Joe Russo 2019

Phase 4 has a lot to live up to after Avengers: Endgame.

When discussing Marvel movies, phase 4 has pretty much hijacked every conversation. MCU fans were previously under the impression that Avengers: Endgame would conclude phase 3 and Spider-Man: Far From Home would usher in the fourth. However, it's now been made clear that the latter will round off the Studios' prestigious third phase.

After Endgame, the forthcoming Spider-Man sequel is surely a must-see; in fact, pretty much all of the MCU's incoming instalments now seem rather imperative. Yet, very little is known about what's on the way. We have Holland swinging back into cinemas on July 2, but after that, speculation is going to be at an all-time high before the big announcements flood in.

Targeting spoilers has been a top priority for the Endgame cast and crew, with the #dontspoiltheendgame hashtag appearing frequently across social media platforms. It's a film better enjoyed with limited knowledge, as it's truly bursting with so many surprises and genuinely stunning sequences. To avoid revealing any character deaths - or indeed, survivals - phase 4 has been kept under wraps. After all, if you knew the identity of a bunch of stand-alone film in the next phase, you'd have pre-notions of how they'd fare in Endgame's narrative.

On the other hand, anyone invested in the MCU has likely seen the film by now, and phase 4 has become a huge talking point as Spider-Man: Far From Home inches closer. Admittedly, it's going to be incredibly difficult for the studio to top Endgame, as it honestly felt like the perfect conclusion and culmination of over an entire decade of superhero cinema. Conclusions were offered and potential partnerships were offered, but how can phase 4 possibly top phase 3?

There's certainly potential for it to do just that, actually. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the forthcoming Black Widow solo movie under the circumstances, but as fans increasingly express disappointment with her character arc, this may be the feature to satisfy her devoted following.

Also, it looks like Thor may be a key player in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and perhaps we'll get a Captain America 4; this does sound a little unlikely, but nevertheless plausible.

We can expect them to introduce new characters in a string of solo-ventures, but also, hopes are exceedingly high for Black Panther 2, considering the previous instalment is one of the most celebrated comic-book movies ever made. Hopefully, phase 4 plans begin to take shape in wake of the second Spider-Man feature, giving fans more to applaud than they initially anticipated.

Sure, Endgame was monumental, but with the beautiful affections we have shown these characters as of lately, there's surely so much more to come. We'll just have to wait and see...

In other news, here are the essential Robert Downey Jr. movies to watch after Endgame.
