John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is almost here and hopes are incredibly high.

Yeah, we’re thinking he’s back. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum arrives in UK cinemas May 15 and Keanu Reeves fans are anticipating the best instalment of his latest franchise. Reeves is, of course, famed for his work on The Matrix trilogy most of all, thanks to his flair for action sequences and stunt-work. Although the latter was incredibly ambitious in its exploration of intriguing sci-fi concepts, John Wick arrived in 2014 to offer fans old-school thrills and an admirable no-nonsense approach.

Chad Stahelski’s first film was the sleeper hit of that year; thanks to positive word-of-mouth, many eventually flocked to a film they initially expected to pass by completely. The film was a lot of fun and saw Reeves returning to the roles he handles best. He’s an action-star through and through, so it’s no surprise that John Wick: Chapter 2 was bolder, better, funnier and a complete exaggeration of everything that made the first film work. Stahelski had truly outdone himself, but we expect he’ll do the very same with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum

Returning to tear up New York, the trailer teases our excommunicated protagonist as he tries to evade every assassin worth their salt. John is a bigger target than ever before, but the one-man army clearly has the survival instincts to match, requesting “guns, lots of guns”. Here, we have more characters, stars, action, lore, and of course, more dogs.

This third instalment looks like a winner, and Stahelski is obviously very excited to unveil his latest creative vision. The director was recently in conversation with Empire to discuss the project for their John Wick-devoted issue, revealing some pretty intriguing comparisons and shedding light on his intentions.

“I want action fatigue,” announced Stahelski. “I want you to be done and go, ‘Ooof! I was on a ride!’ I want the colours to overwhelm you. I want the weirdness to immerse you. I want you to be Alice and go down that rabbit hole and be a little f*%#ed-up for a minute in this kaleidoscope of aesthetically pleasing things.”

We’ve been anticipating a film which seamlessly escalates with every single set-piece, but the Alice in Wonderland comparison from the director really confirms this. The images on display in the trailer are luxurious and aesthetically pleasing, but the juxtaposition of these enticing colours with gritty, unflinching violence really make John Wick: Chapter 3 such an alluring concoction. Get ready, brace yourselves; John Wick is back and everyone is open for business.

In other news, these Tom Hardy movies are coming soon.
