Manchester United need an overhaul and apparently want the Turkish Lionel Messi and a player Mesut Ozil called ‘amazing’.

Manchester United sent scouts to watch Trazonspor pair Abdulkadir Omur and Yusuf Yazici on Monday, the club’s president has told Goal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will miss out on Champions League football in 2019/20 after a fittingly drab 1-1 draw at already relegated Huddersfield Town on Sunday ensured they will finish fifth at best in the English top flight.

The result, and the dire manner of the performance, once again made it clear that United are crying out for a substantial overhaul with an injection of youth and energy badly required.

And, if Trabzonspor president Ahmed Agaoglu is to be believed, Manchester United are interested in bringing in two of the most exciting young talents in the Turkish Super Lig – exciting winger Omur (above) and attacking midfielder Yazici.

“Our players have been watched closely for a long time. Today, Manchester United and Lille scouts were at the game (a 4-2 win against Kayserispor),” Agaoglu said when asked about United’s interest in the highly-rated duo.

“It makes us very proud that Trabzonspor players are on the radars of the biggest clubs in Europe.”

Omur, who has been likened to Lionel Messi thanks to his rapid dribbling skills and dangerous left foot, has produced nine goals in 29 games for Trabzonspor this season.

Yazici, meanwhile, is a skilful playmaker who Arsenal’s Turkish-born number ten Mesut Ozil raved about in 2018.

“Yusuf Yazici is an amazing No 10. We have a lot of similarities and I myself in him. His left foot, his position, his close passing and calmness on the ball,” Ozil told Hurriyet.
