Glasgow Rangers duo Glenn Middleton and Dapo Mebude have impressed Jermain Defoe.

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe said on the SPFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football (6pm, May 3, 2019) that he has been impressed with two Ibrox youngsters – Glenn Middleton and Dapo Mebude.

Defoe joined Rangers on an 18-month loan deal from Premier League club Bournemouth in the January transfer window.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United striker is a hugely experienced footballer, and the 36-year-old Englishman has praised Rangers duo Middleton and Mebude.

Defoe said on the SPFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football (6pm, May 3, 2019) when asked to name the youngster at Rangers who have impressed him: “Glenn’s impressed me, Dapo has impressed me.”

Talented youngsters

Middleton joined Rangers in January 2018 after leaving Norwich City, and the 19-year-old winger has been progressing well at Rangers.

The Scotland Under-21 international has played quite a few first-team matches for Rangers, and it is clear that the teenager has a bright future ahead of him.

According to, Middleton has made 14 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in the process.

Mebude is only 17 years of age, and the Scottish centre-forward has yet to make his debut for the Rangers first team.

The teenager is progressing and developing well at the Gers, and the youngster could well develop into a massive player for the Rangers first team in the first team.
