Pundit praises West Ham star, once of Tottenham.

Ryan Fredericks saved one of his best West Ham games of the season for this past weekend.

Fredericks was excellent in the Hammers’ 3-0 home victory over Southampton. It was the ideal way to sign off in front of fans at the London Stadium.

Fredericks’ performance saw him named in Garth Crooks’ BBC Sport team of the week.

Crooks praised Fredericks’ efforts, and also asked why Tottenham Hotspur ever let him leave.

He said: “The former Tottenham trainee seems to be finding his feet at West Ham and making a name for himself at the same time.

“Fredericks was outstanding against Southampton. Every time the Hammers launched an attack, he seemed to be entering the frame in a desperate attempt to join it.

“The defender sees danger, is quick and has a sharp eye for goal. Makes you wonder why Spurs let him go.”

Fredericks’ ascension to become a Premier League star is testament to his success.

He left Tottenham to drop down a level in 2015, signing with Brentford.

His chance at Spurs was never going to come, with Kyle Walker a clear first choice right-back.

At the time Spurs also had Kyle Naughton and DeAndre Yedlin in front of him in the pecking order.

It would have been wrong of Spurs to keep him and deny him a chance to play regular football elsewhere.
