Celtic have reportedly made an ambitious approach for Jose Mourinho as they make plans for next season.

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Celtic have made an offer for Jose Mourinho, who may be willing to consider heading to Parkhead as he looks for his next managerial role.

The Hoops have clinched their latest Scottish Premiership title this weekend, but there is some uncertainty surrounding the club with Neil Lennon’s second spell in charge only set to run until the end of the season as things stand.

There appears to be every chance that Lennon will be kept on beyond this summer after keeping the club on course for another domestic Treble. But according to some astonishing reports in Italy, the Bhoys may also be keeping their options open.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Hoops have made an offer to Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes, who has a good relationship with the Celtic hierarchy, and he may be interested in considering a move to Scotland.

However, the report adds that Mendes is keeping an eye on developments at Paris Saint-Germain. But with no guarantee that Thomas Tuchel will leave the Ligue 1 giants, it appears that Mourinho is not shutting the door on a surprise switch to Celtic entirely.

It would be a huge shock if Celtic managed to appoint Mourinho. It would surely be asking a lot for the Hoops to put together a financial package that appeals to the Special One.

But even if the links come to nothing, it is still surely a major statement of intent from Celtic to go after a manager of Mourinho’s stature. And it may be an exciting sign for the fans, players and potential transfer targets that the Hoops are setting their sights so high.
