Nine-men Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Bournemouth today.
Tottenham lost 1-0 to Bournemouth today, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s place inside the top four is now in serious jeopardy.
Spurs remain in third sport, but they will be leapfrogged by Chelsea, if Maurizio Sarri’s men beat Watford tomorrow.
Arsenal can also close the gap on Tottenham to just one point if they beat Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow.
Pochettino’s men have been impressive on the whole this season, but their recent form could end up costing them big time.
They have to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Ajax if they are to progress through to the Champions League final on Wednesday night, and now need to beat Everton on the last day of the season, if they are to guarantee a top four finish.
It could be argued that Tottenham were unlucky to lose today, having lost two men to red cards inside the first 48 minutes, but their poor recent form cannot be ignored.
At one point not long ago Spurs were right in the mix for the Premier League title, but now their season is close to imploding.
And former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter in reaction to the north London outfit’s defeat…
Not sure what the attraction is of the Europa League, but some of our clubs seem desperate to be in it.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) 4 May 2019
