Ritsu Doan’s exceptional Eredivisie form has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League Southampton, as well as Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.
Southampton are interested in raiding the Eredivisie once again to sign Groningen talisman Ritsu Doan, according to Calciomercato.
The Saints have enjoyed great success when signing players from the Dutch top flight since they were promoted back to the Premier League in 2012, the likes of Maya Yoshida, Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic making a positive impression at St Mary’s.
Calciomercato is reporting that Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are now battling title-chasing duo Ajax and PSV Eindhoven for Japan international Doan, who has been exceptional in the green shirt of Groningen.
At the age of just 20, Doan is already one of the Eredivisie’s most promising midfielders with his mix of skill, youth and dynamism marking him out as exactly the type of player Hasenhuttl likes to work with.
The former Gamba Osaka youngster has scored four goals and produced three assists in his second Eredivisie season while Groningen manager Danny Buijs compared his star man to £25 million Liverpool ace Gini Wijnaldum back in December, as reported by Voetbal International.
You can see why. Doan, like the Dutch international, is a fine midfielder capable of grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck.
