Blackburn Rovers are considering a move for Non-League star Joe Malkin after taking him on trial at Ewood Park, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Malkin has been earning reviews for Evo-Stik Premier Division side Nantwich Town this season and was named the league’s young player of the season.

The 20-year-old, who is the son of former Tranmere Rovers striker Chris Malkin, has helped Nantwich Town reach the play-offs with 11 goals in 20 starts this term.

Malkin's performances and goalscoring exploits for Nantwich Town have brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Blackburn are hoping to steal a march on a number of their Football League rivals by taking Malkin in on trial so that they can have a look at him at close quarters.

Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is keen to add to his squad ahead of next season and if Malkin impresses during his stint at Ewood Park he could be offered a deal by the Championship club.

However, they could face competition for the forward's signature as scouts from a number of Championship, League One and League Two clubs are expected to watch Malkin in the play-offs as they weigh up moves for the tall forward at the end of the season.

Nantwich are bracing themselves for offers for Malkin and they are unlikely to stand in his way if he is offered the chance to move to the Football League.
