The MCU’s latest and greatest movie could well be on for a record-breaking box office total
Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame was always slated as 2019’s biggest film release and its absolutely incredible opening weekend and box office takings have confirmed not only that but its status as quite possibly the biggest film of the decade.
In just its opening weekend, the bombastic fourth entry in the Avengers series has raked in a completely bonkers $1.2 billion worldwide.
In the U.S. alone, Endgame has earned a staggering $350 million so far, $200 million more than last month’s U.S. opening weekend for Captain Marvel.
Since its release late last week, Avengers: Endgame has completely blown open the record book and its unparalleled performance has already got tongues wagging about the possibility of the film taking the challenge to James Cameron’s Avatar for the top spot as the highest-grossing movie of all time.
To put Endgame’s release into context, 2013’s Iron Man 3 earned $1.2 billion in the course of its cinematic release, that’s successful by anyone’s standards. However, Endgame has completely changed the game, earning that same total after a matter of days.
Whether Endgame has the legs to overtake Avatar remains to be seen but you can be sure it’ll be a close-run thing.
If Marvel’s latest addition to its MCU can continue to rake in the bucks in the same fashion over the next few weeks, there could well be a new name at the top of the highest-grossing films of all time list.
