Paris Saint-Germain have failed in an attempt to sign Manchester City target Florentino Luis with Benfica playing hardball over the youngsters future, as reported by The Guardian.
The Premier League champions have made no secret of their desire to sign a replacement for 33-year-old Fernandinho, having been linked with Declan Rice, Saul Niguez, Rodri and N’Golo Kante after missing out on Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona.
And The Guardian believes that Florentino is the latest name in the frame. The Lisbon-born dynamo was part of Benfica’s youth team for a decade and has only recently forced his way into The Eagles’ starting XI, making his debut in a 10-0 thrashing of Nacional in February.
Benfica will not let Florentino leave on the cheap, however, with the Premeira Liga leaders often demanding top dollar for their prized assets.
The teenager has a £52 million release clause in his contract and The Guardian claims that PSG have already had one bid turned down, though it is not known how much the Ligue 1 champions offered.
City have been scouting Florentino heavily of late but will they pay £52 million for a player who has made just seven top flight appearances.
