Report: Leeds, Wolves and Norwich want to sign Yoann Barbet

Brentford could lose Yoann Barbet with Championship duo Norwich City and Leeds United reportedly battling Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City are competing to sign Yoann Barbet this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The versatile Frenchman, who is equally comfortable at centre-half or left-back, has been quietly impressive for Brentford in the Championship this season but, like Andre Gray, Chris Mepham and Scott Hogan and co before him, appears destined to bid farewell to Griffin Park and take a step higher.

 

Barbet’s contract expires in July and he will be a free agent as a result, something that has not passed a number of clubs in need of defensive reinforcements by.

According to L’Equipe, promotion chasing Leeds and Norwich are keen to snap up the 25-year-old for absolutely nothing in the summer.

Leeds, in particular, have been left light at both left-back and centre-half at times this season due to injuries and Barbet could fill both roles if required.

Interest from Wolves, meanwhile, will raise eyebrows given their lofty position in the Premier League. But Barbet, who joined Brentford from lower league French outfit Niort in 2015, could slot in perfectly to Nuno Espirito Santo’s preferred three-man defence in the top flight.
