Celtic interim manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that striker Leigh Griffiths has been undergoing fitness tests on Thursday and admitted that the Hoops have missed his goals.

The 28-year-old has been out since December as he overcomes personal problems, but is having his fitness assessed amid hopes of making a return to action before the end of the season.

Griffiths has been a prolific scorer for Celtic over the years and his return would be a major boost for Lennon given the Bhoys have been struggling in front of goal since he took the reins earlier this year.

"We will have a fair idea how far away Leigh is after today’s results," the Northern Irishman is quoted by The Scotsman as saying.

"He has a bit of work to do but yes, hopefully he’ll be back, which should be a bonus because we have missed his goals, there is no question of that. He needs to get some calmness and stability in his life and the football can take care of itself."

Here is how some Celtic fans reacted on Twitter following the update on Griffiths:

Griffiths has made 203 appearances for Celtic, scoring 104 goals and picking up 45 assists since arriving at Parkhead in January 2014 from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Transfermarkt.

Celtic face Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, before fixtures against Aberdeen and Rangers, then comes a double header against Hearts, in the league and then in the Scottish Cup final on 25 May.
