Everton’s Andre Gomes has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are looking to claim at least €20million (£17.35million) for midfielder Andre Gomes – but they have little loyalty towards Everton.
Barca raided Valencia to sign Gomes in the summer of 2016, believing that he would be a fixture of their midfield for years to come – but it didn’t work out that way.
The Portuguese international struggled with the Camp Nou pressure, and after falling down the pecking order under Ernesto Valverde, Gomes was sent out on loan to Everton for this season.
Gomes has become a Goodison Park favourite, thriving under Marco Silva this season as he’s got back towards his best, leaving many Toffees fans to demand a permanent move.
Now, Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona want at least €20million (£17.35million) for Gomes, which seems a little on the low side, even if he doesn’t have a future in Catalunya.
It’s stated that Everton do have an option do sign Gomes this season, but it’s not mandatory, and Barcelona have little loyalty towards the Toffees as they’ll simply sell to the highest bidder.
It seems like a complex situation, but it’s clear that Gomes won’t be at Barcelona next season. Everton’s ‘option’ seems more like a first refusal clause rather than a buyout clause, meaning they’re still in the box seat, but Barca can still sell on elsewhere.
With The Telegraph claiming that Tottenham’s Daniel Levy will sanction a move for Gomes this summer, Spurs could be the big competition – but even that report suggested that a deal would cost around £30million, again putting the new claims on the cheap side.
