Souttar looks set to be on the move this summer after an impressive campaign with Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. Steven Gerrard had been hoping to bring the centre-back to Ibrox with Joe Worrall set to return to his parent club at the end of his loan and Gareth McAuley's future looking to be up in the air.
TEAMtalk reports that the Gers had been the favourites to sign Souttar, but his £5 million asking price appears to be an 'issue' and Derby have since moved into the running.
The report adds that Souttar is keen to make the move to England at the end of the season, which further suggests that the Rams are in a good position to go and beat Rangers to his signature.
The £5 million price-tag may leave some Rangers fans fairly content with the idea of missing out on Souttar. There did appear to be a section of the fanbase who were not convinced that he was the right target - Souttar has been on the losing side against Rangers three times this season, conceding nine goals - and that asking price may only leave them more certain that Gerrard should be looking elsewhere.
But with Souttar boasting a lot of potential, it does appear that it may prove to be a real blow for Rangers to miss out if Derby do indeed manage to get a deal done.
