The Magpies and Paraguay midfielder will miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
The 25-year-old, who has impressed for the Magpies since his January 2019 club-record fee arrival from Atlanta United, was injured in Saturday's 3-1 win over Southampton and left the pitch in tears.
Almiron will be unavailable for the final three games of Newcastle's league campaign against Brighton, Liverpool and Fulham, the club confirmed on their website, and he also faces a race to be fit for selection for Paraguay at this summer's Copa America.
Here is how some of the Toon Army faithful reacted on Twitter to the news:
Sad days since he's been one of the best signings of the last transfer window. Facts.— Jimmy Conrad (@JimmyConrad) April 24, 2019
Sad news but to be honest since he arrived the team has been 100% better.i think without him Newcastle would of got relegated months ago. now it's time to look forwards to next season with more hope and to enjoy the summer— ROB BURNS (@ROBBURN48846459) April 24, 2019

Absolutely devastated. A very important player for us. Him, Ayoze and Rondon have been amazing as a front 3. Get well soon Miguel— Scott (@scxttnufc) April 24, 2019
Totally changed our team. Gutted for him. He was balling his eyes out when he knew he'd done his hammy.— IAmOllie (@GeordieOllie) April 24, 2019
Almiron, who helped Atlanta win the MLS Cup in only their second season in existence last year, has made 10 appearances for Newcastle in his debut season.
His performances have invigorated the Magpies, who are now safe from relegation, 10 points clear of the bottom three with just three games - nine points - left to play.
The Copa America, which Almiron will be hoping to make, gets under way in Brazil on 14 June, with Paraguay opening their campaign against Qatar in Rio de Janeiro two days later.
