Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Hearts defender John Souttar.
Rangers fans were given an early look at one of their top transfer targets over the weekend.
The Daily Record claimed earlier in April that director of football Mark Allen has identified John Souttar as a top target with the ball-playing centre-half coming to the end of an exceptional season at Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts.
But he hardly aced his audition against a club who may well be his future employers. Souttar was far from his best as Hearts were thumped 3-1 by Rangers at Tynecastle on Saturday.
And on that evidence, it’s fair to say the Ibrox faithful are far from convinced that he’s worth an eye-watering £5 million. That is the fee Hearts are demanding for their 22-year-old prized asset, according to TEAMtalk.
Derby County, who have been linked with the former Dundee United starlet since Steve McClaren’s time at Pride Park, appear to have moved to the front of the queue with £5 million likely to prove a little rich for a Rangers side who haven’t paid so much for a single player since Mikel Arteta arrived in 2002.
Talk of 5 million for Souttar is just crazy. I only assume Talk is all it is.

5 million! Really? Pass! Promote a CB from the youth or see if there’s any better options in the free or loan market
