Sane, the reigning Premier League Young Player of the Year, has blossomed into one of European football’s most promising attackers since he moved to The Etihad from Schalke for £37 million three years ago (BBC).
But he has fallen down the pecking order recently, playing just seven minutes in both legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Tottenham while being left on the bench against both Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Metro reports that talks over extending a deal that expires in 2021 have proven to be much slower than City were hoping with the board fearful that he could be tempted by a move away in the near future.
Bayern Munich, who are set to bid farewell to veteran wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, have tracked Sane since his Schalke days and remain keen to bring the German international to the Allianz Arena as a marquee signing during a potential £200 million overhaul.
