Newcastle United’s Achraf Lazaar may be on his way to Sheffield Wednesday permanently.

Newcastle United defender Achraf Lazaar has told Tuttomercatoweb that he is talking about a permanent stay with Sheffield Wednesday.
Lazaar, 27, joined Newcastle from Palermo in the summer of 2016, with Rafael Benitez landing him as competition for Paul Dummett at left back after the club’s relegation.
However, the Moroccan international made just nine appearances in his first season with Newcastle, and has played only once for the Magpies since having become an outcast under Benitez.
Lazaar was farmed out on loan to Benevento last season, where he again struggled for playing time, and he was a forgotten man at St James’ Park in the first half of this season.
Sheffield Wednesday pounced to take Lazaar on loan until the end of the season in January though, giving him a chance to rebuild his career under Steve Bruce.
So far, Lazaar has made just four appearances for the Owls, and played the full 90 minutes of Monday’s 2-0 home win over Bristol City as he looks to end the season strongly.

Now, Lazaar has admitted that Wednesday want to keep him, and he is talking to the Owls about a potential stay at Hillsborough, but still has two years left on his Newcastle deal, meaning a move isn’t quite as straightforward as he’d like.
“Sheffield Wednesday would like to keep me, we’re talking about it,” said Lazaar. “I have a two-year contract with Newcastle, we’ll see,” he added.
