Some Blackburn Rovers supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on the club’s announcement that young defender Ryan Nyambe has extended his contract at Ewood Park.

The talented 21-year-old has penned a new deal until June 2021, the club’s official website report.

Nyambe joined Blackburn’s academy aged 13 and it didn’t take him long to start making an impact for the youth sides. He went on to make his official debut for Rovers in 2015 in a League Cup tie.

Capable of playing at both right-back or in the middle, his new deal is great news for Rovers and the club’s supporters feel the Lancashire club have made an excellent decision in extending his contract.

Nyambe has become a regular for Tony Mowbray’s side this season. The Namibia-born defender has made 29 Championship appearances, with his latest coming in the 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.

Both powerful and quick across the ground, Nyambe’s future possibly lies in central defence but for now Mowbray has mainly deployed him at right-back with his performances consistently good.

Nyambe has made a total of 97 first-team appearances in a Rovers shirt. His future looks bright, and he has the potential to go on and play Premier League football.

A run of four straight Championship wins has moved Rovers back up the table and bodes well ahead of next season as the club will see a playoff challenge as a realistic objective.
