West Ham United are reportedly set to miss out on signing Edin Dzeko, with the striker set to turn the Hammers down.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Edin Dzeko plans to reject West Ham as he is desperate to join Inter Milan – and former Hammers loanee Joao Mario may help the Nerazzurri land the striker.

Calciomercato reports that the Irons had been the favourites to sign the former Manchester City man, who has spent the last four seasons with Roma.

However, the report suggests that Dzeko does not want to make the switch to link up with former boss Manuel Pellegrini and is desperate to head to San Siro.

But Calciomercato adds that Inter are some way short of Roma’s valuation for Dzeko and thus, may include players in the bid, with Joao Mario named as one potential option who could head the other way to sweeten the deal.

Roy Keane and the growing links to Celtic

West Ham certainly appear to need to strengthen their striker options during the summer. Felipe Anderson remains their top goalscorer, but he is yet to reach double figures for Premier League goals this season.

Marko Arnautovic has not looked like the same player since the January transfer window, and Javier Hernandez has struggled for consistency during his time with the Hammers.

But unfortunately for the Irons, Dzeko appears to be hoping to head elsewhere, and it may be a former West Ham loanee that may boost the forward’s chances of sealing the move that he reportedly wants.
