John Souttar is a very talented and promising young defender in the Scottish Premiership, and there is no surprise to see that Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers reportedly want to sign the Heart of Midlothian star.

Rangers are interested in signing Hearts central defender Souttar in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Record.

It has been reported that Rangers director of football Mark Allen has identified the 22-year-old centre-back as a top signing for the Ibrox club this summer.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the Scotland international has made 20 appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Hearts so far this season, providing one assist in the process.

The youngster has also made six appearances in the Scottish Cup cup and four in the Scottish Cup for Hearts this campaign, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Hearts manager Craig Levein recently said that Souttar is the best centre-back in Scotland, as quoted in Capital City Press.

It is quite a bold remark, one that former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons does not agree with, with the 35-year-old also outlining where the youngster needs to improve on.

Commons said on Sky Sports Football (2:20pm, April 20, 2019) when asked about Levein’s comments on Souttar: “Is he the best centre-back in the league? I would disagree. I think he has got potential, he is still young.

“One thing that John obviously had to get over is a really serious Achilles injury. That will go against him. I think next year he could improve.

“We all know John is a very, very good ball player, he needs to add the defending to that. I don’t think he is the best defender in this league just yet.”
