Rangers made a 'big mistake' in letting Darren McGregor leave Ibrox, says Tam McManus.
Rangers, then under Mark Warburton, terminated McGregor's contract at the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign.
The Scottish defender, now 33, wound up joining Hibernian and he has been a big player in Leith ever since, making over 40 Premiership starts over the past two seasons.
Such is his importance, the Easter Road club extended his contract today and former Hibs star McManus reckons that Warburton missed a trick in not keeping him at Ibrox.
Some servant for Hibs. Still maintain he should have been called up for Scotland a few years back. Big mistake by Warburton to let him leave Rangers when he first came in. An old school out and out box defender https://t.co/3KAdVELw4g— Tam McManus (@The_Tman10) April 22, 2019
Warburton, who only arrived in Glasgow a few months before McGregor's exit, signed Danny Wilson and Rob Kieran.
Both of them effectively rendered McGregor surplus to requirements, but four years on and the Hibs star is the only Premiership player of all three now.
Wilson moved to the MLS to join Colorado Rapids in 2018, while Kieran is battling relegation into League Two with Southend United.
