The 23-year-old has been in stunning form for the Villans since returning from a shin injury in March, with his comeback coinciding with a nine-match winning streak.
And Sherwood, who once managed him in the West Midlands, claims that his former player would be firmly in Gareth Southgate's plans now if the switch to North London went through.
He told Sky Sports' The Debate show: "He should be playing for England in my opinion. If he got that move to Tottenham that fell through in the last hour he'd be playing for England. No doubt."
It's a big shout by Sherwood. Grealish is a supremely gifted player, but England also have a lot of talented players in his position and it isn't a foregone conclusion that he'd have been capped by England if he joined Spurs.
It's certainly possible, but you can't win caps for your country if you aren't playing regularly at club level, and considering Tottenham are in a Champions League semi-final, there are question marks over whether he would have played often enough under Mauricio Pochettino.
