The Ajax ace would be a superb addition for Liverpool.
Liverpool have been quite simply brilliant this year, and one of the most impressive features of their game has been their defensive solidarity.
That has all come about since Jurgen Klopp brought Virgil van Dijk to Anfield in January 2018 for £75 million, but it could be argued that they need one more top class centre-back, with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip not quite being classed as elite players.
With this in mind, Liverpool must do all they can to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax this summer.
And the Dutchman's arrival at Anfield would surely give the Reds the best central defensive partnership in world football.
The Guardian claims that the 19-year-old could be available for around £75 million this summer, and after his performances for Ajax in the Champions League this season, that would surely end up looking like an absolute bargain.
Liverpool, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all been linked with moves for the Holland international, according to talkSPORT, but the Merseyside outfit should make it their priority to win the race for the Ajax teen.
Despite his tender years, De Ligt is already regarded as one of the continent's best central defenders, and the frightening thing is that he will only get better.
And what a partnership he could form with Van Dijk.
The two countryman playing together really would be an awesome prospect, and even for the hefty fee of £75 million, Liverpool must do everything within their power to obtain his signature this summer.
