Liverpool beat Porto 4-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Liverpool are into the semi-finals of the Champions League after beating Porto 4-1 on Wednesday night, sealing a 6-1 aggregate win over the Portuguese side.
The Reds claimed a 2-0 first leg lead at Anfield last week, and grabbed the lead at the Estadio do Dragao last night when Sadio Mane opened the scoring.
Mohamed Salah added another in the second half, and whilst Eder Militao pulled one back for Porto, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk added gloss to a comfortable win.
Liverpool now take on Barcelona in the last four, and are edging closer to getting back to the final, having lost to Real Madrid at that stage of last season’s competition.
Liverpool did have some trouble in the first half, as Porto striker Moussa Marega caused problems, but couldn’t quite find the net in a wasteful period.
The Malian had five shots on goal last night, landing three on target but couldn’t beat Alisson, with the 28-year-old failing to add to his 17-goal tally this season.
Liverpool fans took to Twitter to react to the powerful forward’s display, backing him for a move to Everton after seeing him cause problems against Liverpool – and L’Equipe did actually claim last summer that the Toffees wanted Marega.
Some added that he was a real nuisance for Van Dijk in the Liverpool back line, troubling the usually unflappable Dutch defender on a couple of occasions, which may well have caught Everton’s eye again…
That Marega lad is pure Everton— Kyle (@KyleMcGowan_) April 17, 2019
Wouldn’t be shocked to see that Marega end up at Everton in the next few years.— Justin (@JuzaShannon) April 17, 2019
Seems like the most on brand striker for them.
I can guarantee that Everton have watched Marega over two legs and decided that he’s exactly what they need.— David (@daveisonfire) April 17, 2019
Tbf I’ve seen van Dijk break a sweat on only 2 occasions this season. Both times involved Marega.— Deco (@XhosaScouser) April 17, 2019
Marega has given our CBs more trouble than anyone else this season. First game he did it to Lovren. Here he’s made Van Dijk look uncomfortable.— Liverpool Offside (@LFCOffside) April 17, 2019
Van Dijk made Lewandowski look like Marega and is currently making Marega look like Lewandowski— hendo_fan (@PassingMF) April 17, 2019
Marega is handful for VVD tonite hasn’t he? Good to see some1 putting up a fight with our CB. #PORLIV— LaDy Mar-Vell (༼ຈل͜ຈ༽) #LFC (@Nirmalaanimmie) April 17, 2019
Glad we calmed that down. Marega had VVD on strings for a bit and should’ve scored a few— Ethan (@foxylfc_) April 17, 2019
