Tottenham Hotspur dumped Manchester City out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Tottenham Hotspur are into the semi-finals of the Champions League – but few could have possibly envisaged just how bonkers their second leg with Manchester City would be.
Spurs led 1-0 from the first leg thanks to Son Heung-min's goal, but Raheem Sterling's early goal brought City level on aggregate, only for Son to strike twice in a matter of moments.
Bernardo Silva levelled the game up, meaning there had been four goals in the first 11 minutes of the game, and Sterling added another to make it 3-2 inside 20 minutes.
Sergio Aguero put City 4-2 up, putting them in the ascendancy to progress, but Fernando Llorente bundled the ball home for Spurs, making it 4-3 – sending Spurs through on away goals.
There was unprecedented late drama though, as Sterling completed his hat-trick in injury time, seemingly sending City through, only for VAR to rule the goal out for an offside on Aguero in the build-up.
Somehow, Spurs have made it through to the semi-finals against Ajax, presenting Mauricio Pochettino with an unbelievable opportunity to reach the final.
Everybody associated with football simply loved such an action-packed game, and Jamie Carragher took to Twitter to state it was one of the best games he's ever seen, with the late VAR adding to the drama.
Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville added that it was an amazing game, and joked that they should take a rest against City in the Premier League this weekend - though that may inadvertently boost Liverpool, which Neville may not be quite so keen on...
An amazing game and well done to Spurs . All your players must be really tired . Take a rest Saturday !— Gary Neville (@GNev2) April 17, 2019
