Reid spent four years on West Bromwich Albion's books as a player.
West Bromwich Albion fans are reacting to reports Steven Reid could return to the Hawthorns.
The report follows confirmation from West Brom at the start of this week that Shan will remain in interim charge for the remainder of the campaign, which is likely to extend into the play-offs.
And many of an Albion persuasion are delighted to have Reid back.
This is what they're saying on Twitter...
Ill be honest would rather have Steven reid as head coach tbh, thumbs up from me though— Barry Moulsdale (@bazabaggie73) 17 April 2019
Great news. Would definitely love him to be new head coach.— Baggienickjg (@Baggienickjg1) 17 April 2019
Next seasons manager sorted then?we do like a freebie from within.— Kenty (@kentyitis) 17 April 2019
Getting the next caretaker sorted, forward thinking— James Hill (@JamesHill_91) 17 April 2019
Cracking news. He’s a good guy Reidy is! Hopefully provide Shan with the support needed to get through the playoffs.— Jake (@ItsWhitehouse) 17 April 2019
Worked with Roy Hodgson well, I’m sure he’ll be a great influence. Nice to see him.— Christine Slimm (@chrissies141) 17 April 2019
Excellent choice. He certainly enjoyed his time at the club.— Chris A. Stott (@TaffieBaggie) 17 April 2019
And for those who aren't as convinced, here's what some of Reid's former clubs' fans have said about him recently...
When he was at Reading he was highly regarded with many positive things being said.— Russell Hammant (@Buster_5265) 17 April 2019
Did great at Palace too, who stuttered hugely when he departed.— Matheus de Andrade (@maffff) 17 April 2019
Roy not going anywhere now let’s be honest but I feel it be good to bring a younger coach to connect with the players like we originally had with Steven Reid. Thoughts #cpfc— Dan (@CpfcDan89) 9 April 2019
Honestly think we need some fresh blood/experience in the coaching staff - not Roy. He isn’t one to kick someone up the arse but we really miss Steven Reid. We need to be nastier.— DOM FADER (@sirdance__alot) 4 April 2019
Steven Reid? Was very well respected as assistant at the club and I got the impression he was being lined up to replace Roy at the right time. With the right team behind him it could work.— Christian Thwaites (@CSThwaites) 5 April 2019
Reid - who retired from playing at Burnley four years ago - has since coached at Reading, Crystal Palace and AFC Wimbledon, whom he left in December.
West Brom plan to appoint another new coach as well as the 38-year-old, with Keith Downing, Kevin Phillips, Craig Shakespeare and Michael Appleton expected to be considered, according to the Express & Star.
