Report: Tottenham interested in £17m Lazio defender Luiz Felipe

Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino smiles ahead of the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC at Wembley on September 15, 2018 in London, United Kingdom.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking at Serie A for Toby Alderweireld's replacement, with Luiz Felipe and Joachim Andersen their top targets.

Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Lazio’s Luiz Felipe as they scour the market for a new centre-half, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Spurs appear to be preparing for life without their commanding Belgian international Toby Alderweireld, who will be available for just £25 million this summer thanks to a very affordable release clause in his contract (the Independent).

And it seems the North London outfit are looking at Serie A - which has proved a breeding ground for some of the world’s best defenders over the years - for a replacement.

TMW claims that Spurs have been keeping tabs on Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen, but the Dane has admitted that he wants to stay in Italy for one more season.

As a result, Luiz Felipe has emerged as an alternative option. The 22-year-old joined Lazio from Ituano in 2016, although he is still not a guaranteed starter, featuring in just 13 Serie A games this season for Simone Inzaghi’s side.

But Felipe is valued at £17 million, which is around £5 million less than Sampdoria would demand for Andersen.

With funds tight at Tottenham, don’t be surprised if Felipe emerges as their number one target.
