Manchester United’s Champions League battering in Barcelona highlights their lack of defensive strength, with Bundesliga champion Sule a potential solution.,
Manchester United have turned their attention to Bayern Munich star Niklas Sule after their humbling Champions League defeat to Barcelona on Tuesday, as reported by Sport1.
It was been well documented for some time that the Red Devils are badly in need of defensive reinforcements and their weaknesses were exposed in brutal fashion by a Lionel Messi-inspired Barca at the Camp Nou, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went down 4-0 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
As a result, United are expected to go all-out for a top class centre-back with Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire among those who have been frequently mentioned.
But Sule is a new name in the frame.
The 18-time Germany international joined Bayern Munich from Hoffenheim two years ago for around £21 million, as reported by the Mail, and he has been a consistent bright spark in a mixed season under Niko Kovac.
At 23, Sule is fast emerging as one of Europe’s most impressive young defenders and claims from Sport1 that United have already made an enquiry should come as no surprise.
The chances of Bayern cashing in, however, look very slim indeed. Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels are past their best these days and Sule is a key part of the rebuilding effort in Munich.
