Fabinho made a slow start after arriving at Liverpool in a £40 million transfer last summer (the Guardian), but he has forced his way into Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up over recent weeks.
The Brazilian has been rock solid in Liverpool’s midfield, which has pushed Henderson into a more advanced role.
And Carragher feels that Fabinho is the right man to be protecting Liverpool’s defence.
He said: “Fabinho can’t run. Jordan Henderson can run. But in that position Fabinho is better than Henderson. The way he reads situations, he snuffs things out more, even though he hasn’t got the legs of him.”
Fabinho’s move into defensive midfield seems to have freed Henderson, who has been one of Liverpool’s top performances of late.
Henderson has been given more licence to break forward and has scored and provided in assist in recent weeks for Klopp’s men.
Henderson’s and Fabinho’s displays have helped Liverpool keep their place at the top of the Premier League table, although Manchester City are chasing them down, and have a game in hand.
