Championship-bound Fulham reportedly want Newcastle United’s West Brom loanee Gayle, but will the Premier League outfit sell to the Cottagers?
Fulham have renewed their interest in Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle as they prepare for life back in the Championship, according to the Chronicle.
The Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League a fortnight ago and will be playing second tier football next season. And the Londoners will need to find a replacement for Aleksandar Mitrovic, who looks certain to leave in the summer.
But Gayle, who scored 21 goals in the Championship this season during a loan spell at West Brom, could be the ideal candidate. The 28-year-old also netted 23 times in 26 starts for Newcastle during the 2016/17 game as Rafa Benitez’s side won the second tier title.
And this is not the first time Fulham have attempted to bring Gayle to Craven Cottage. The Mirror (4 September 2017, page 46) claimed that they had agreed a £15 million fee with Newcastle two years ago, only for the deal to fall through on deadline day.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will let Gayle seal a long-awaited move to Fulham however.
Gayle is understood to be central to their hopes of signing Salomon Rondon on a permanent basis with TEAMtalk reporting that the Magpies could look to negotiate a potential player-plus-cash deal involving the Venezuelan target man.
