Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both in the race for the top four, and whilst the summer transfer window is still a few weeks away, speculation is already mounting.
Two weeks after April Fool's Day, Tottenham fans would be forgiven for thinking we've gone back a fortnight amid the latest rumour about defender Toby Alderweireld.
The Sun claim that Arsenal – Tottenham's bitter rivals – are interested in signing Alderweireld this summer, and could launch a controversial more for the centre back.
Due to a £25million release clause in his contract for a limited time this summer, Alderweireld may well be leaving Spurs this summer, so they technically couldn't really stop Arsenal from activating the clause.
It seems unlikely that the 30-year-old would be interested in such a move though, as Arsenal isn't exactly a step up from Tottenham at this stage.
The move would be a major shock, and would bring major vitriol from Spurs fans, even if it may not quite be at the same level as when Sol Campbell left Tottenham for Arsenal in 2001.
Spurs fans have been taking to Twitter to react to this bizarre and somewhat far-fetched rumour, suggesting that the rumour must be a late April Fool's joke, believing silly season has gone 'bonkers' already.
Others think there is simply no chance Alderweireld woulds sign for Arsenal even if they did some calling, adding that Arsenal are in cuckoo land if they think they can sign the Belgian centre back.

They could offer it, like they offered with Luis Suarez. Would like to think Toby would have more class / ambition than just money alone— Samson (@salopsam) April 14, 2019
