Several Spurs fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Daily Mirror over the weekend which suggested that Tottenham have included James Maddison on their list of potential targets should Christian Eriksen leave.
There appears to be a question mark lingering over Eriksen's future with Spurs. The Daily Mirror reported that the Dane has so far refused to sign a new deal with the club and Manchester United are eyeing a move as he edges towards the final 12 months of his contract.
The Mirror adds that Tottenham are starting to make plans in case they lose Eriksen, and that includes drawing up a list of potential targets who could be brought in if the playmaker leaves.
And one of those players is reportedly Leicester star Maddison, who has enjoyed an outstanding campaign after joining from Norwich City in the summer.
The 22-year-old has scored seven goals and contributed six assists for the Foxes in the Premier League. He is clearly a player with enormous potential, but the reports have divided fans.
Some are adamant that he is not good enough to be Eriksen's replacement if he leaves. However, others have argued that replacing Eriksen is an impossible task anyway and Maddison could develop into a phenomenal player in the coming years if he gets the chance to work under Mauricio Pochettino.
Here is how some of the supporters reacted to the reports...
If we lose CE then Maddison and Grealish would be enough.— Tony Wallace (@TonyWallace5) April 15, 2019
How about keeping Eriksen and replacing Lamela with Maddison?— Nick Davis (@NickDavis78) April 15, 2019
Most creative player in Europe this year according to stats. Would be a great signing and fit the homegrown quota.— SW (@_Will30) April 15, 2019
Don’t think people get that if Eriksen leaves obviously we’re going to have to downgrade. who is out there that we can realistically get that is as good/better than Eriksen? He’s probably within the top 5 in the world at what he does— Luke Rumble (@LukeRumble94) April 15, 2019
Too late we should’ve got him before Leicester! He’d cost a small fortune now that Levy would be unwilling to pay.— Coops (@robcuper) April 15, 2019
Hell. Yeah.— Generic White Guy (@ZeroFilterGuy) April 15, 2019
Gabby Agbonlahor is on a free if Kane leaves. ♂️— Pricey (@nickprice153) April 15, 2019
Not even close to the same level of play— Bart Ewing (@gbewing) April 15, 2019
Plenty of talent, and lots of us wanted him while he was at Norwich, but Eriksen replacement? No chance.— Just Jim (@superspurs84) April 15, 2019
Young, English, plenty of talent already - poch could do frightening things with him. Those who don’t agree are probably the same people that used to boo when Harry Winks played a backwards pass in his own half at 3-0 up with 5 minutes on the clock.— Mat (@MatTHFC90) April 15, 2019
