UK viewers could have a long wait for the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show.
Excitement for the first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show has ramped up another few notches with the release of The Mandalorian's second official trailer with the US release of the show and its Disney+ streaming service now just two weeks away, at the time of writing.
The new trailer was unveiled on October 29th as Disney shed a little more light onto its latest and possibly greatest Star Wars creation to date.
However, Star Wars fans here in the UK have been left in the lurch by Disney as no release date for The Mandalorian or Disney+ has yet to be confirmed.
When is the UK launch?
Back in April, we learned that Disney+ would be launching Stateside on November 12th, 2019, but since then we've not heard anything about the UK release of the streaming service other than the fact it's launching here in the first quarter of 2020, meaning it could be as late as March before we finally get to feast our eyes on The Mandalorian.
Why is the UK launch still a mystery?
It is thought that Disney are holding back on announcing the UK launch date thanks to licensing issues with Sky and Netflix currently showing a number of Marvel, Star Wars and Disney films on their services.
Disney, however, want exclusivity for their content and so will be holding off until Netflix and Sky no longer have the ability to show the any Disney content.
The issue that this raises, however, is how on Earth will UK viewers be able to watch The Mandalorian (legally) when it comes out on Disney+ in the US, Canada and The Netherland on November 12th and Australia and New Zealand on November 19th?
Sooner rather than later
There has already been speculation that until Disney+ launches properly that the Mandalorian could work its way onto Disney's current UK streaming service DisneyLife but there is little concrete evidence to support that.
Delaying the release of Disney+ and in turn The Mandalorian to UK audiences is not ideal for the fanbase or the house of mouse as it could lead to an uptake of pirating the show, something which we all want to avoid.
Whether we'll find out the UK release for The Mandalorian and Disney+ between now and the US launch on November 12th remains to be seen.
The Mandalorian: Episode guide
One thing we do know about The Mandalorian, however, is the number of episodes that are coming our way in season 1.
The show will contain eight episodes but unlike a number of Netflix series, not all eight episodes will be released at once.
The first episode of The Mandalorian is set to release alongside the Disney+ launch on November 12th but episodes will then release weekly from November 15th until the season finale on December 27th.
Hopefully, for fans in the UK, we're not left waiting until March to finally watch the show.
However, one upside to the potential four-month wait is that we shouldn't have to deal with the staggered release of the show.
