Houssem Aouar has agreed that he will stay at Lyon for at least one more season, putting an end to any hopes Liverpool or Manchester City might have had of luring him to the Premier League, according to BuzzSport.
The vultures are once again circling over the Stade OL with Lyon expected to lose a number of their star players over the summer. Tanguy Ndombele, Nabil Fekir and Moussa Dembele are just three who have been linked with big-money moves in recent weeks.
But the fans can rest easy knowing that Aouar is staying put.
According to BuzzSport, the 20-year-old playmaker has his heart set on forcing his way into France’s Euro 2020 squad and has therefore decided to stay at Lyon in order to maximise his chances of playing regular first-team football.
This will come as a disappointment to Manchester City. BuzzSport claims that the Premier League champions have been ‘salivating’ over Aouar, whose vision and velvet touch, not to mention seven league goals, have caught the eye of Pep Guardiola.
RMC Sport, meanwhile, claims that Aour has admirers at Liverpool. The France U21 international plays in the same inverted, left-sided midfield role that Philippe Coutinho made his own at Anfield.
