A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from The Sun over the weekend which suggested that the Gunners are one of the teams currently discussing a potential summer bid for Tottenham defeder Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld may well be on the move at the end of the season. The Sun reports that Spurs could lose the Belgian for just £25 million after a release clause in his contract was activated.

The report adds that a number of Premier League sides have been considering meeting that release clause, including Manchester City, Chelsea and most surprisingly, Arsenal.

The Sun suggests that Unai Emery may have just £40 million to spend in the summer, so Alderweireld's release clause seemingly makes him the ideal target as he looks to improve his defensive options.

Unsurprisingly, a number of Arsenal fans on social media are holding out little hope that the Gunners may actually be the ones to sign the Spurs star. Tottenham may not be able to prevent Alderweireld from leaving, but it seems highly unlikely that the 30-year-old will decide to make the switch to the Emirates.

But there are certainly plenty of supporters who hope that the club can replicate the stunning move for Sol Campbell and convince Alderweireld to join Tottenham's biggest rivals.
