Tottenham Hotspur should explore the possibility of signing the Inter Milan striker this month.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will surely be looking to bolster his attacking ranks in the summer, with Fernando Llorente’s current deal set to expire, and more competition required for Harry Kane.
If Spurs are to make genuine progress next season, it could be argued that they need more than just a back-up for Kane, and the addition of a truly world-class front-man really could take them to another level.
And there might just be an opportunity for them to do just that, with Mauro Icardi reportedly up for grabs.
According to a report from Spanish media outlet AS, Inter could be willing to sell the Argentine for just €60 million (£52 million) this summer, and in today’s market, that would represent excellent value for Tottenham.
The 26-year-old is a lethal finisher, with 123 goals in 212 appearances for Inter to his name, and he would provide the type of world-class competition for Kane that Spurs desperately need.
Icardi is arguably one of the top five strikers in world football, and his playing style means that he could easily be used alongside Kane, giving Tottenham a seriously dangerous strike-force.
The Argentina international has plenty of years left ahead of him in the game, and the setup at Spurs seems to be ready made for him.
Whether Daniel Levy will be prepared to back Poch to the tune of £52 million, however, remains to be seen.
